DECORATIVE BOOKPLATE

Finborough Library : Finborough Hall, Suffolk. Decorative Bookplate.

Very Good Condition. Item #374764

An attractive printed bookplate, undated, but probably mid 19th century from the design. The plate is about 6.5 cm x 9.5 cm, and still mounted to a single quarto sized board. This bookplate is from Finborough Hall, a country house near Great Finborough in Suffolk. The hall was historically associated with the Pettiward family, who owned the estate from the early 18th century onward. The heraldic design with quartered arms, crosses, stars, roses, and animal motifs indicates aristocratic lineage. The presence of a helmet and cross above the shield suggests knightly or noble status, typical of armorial bookplates used from the late 18th to early 20th centuries. Size: 22 x 28.5 cms.
