FRONTISPIECE ONLY. This 1627 copperplate engraving by Dominicus Custos presents six noble figures flanked by cherubic emblems, beneath a German genealogical title and Latin verse. Published in Augsburg, it celebrates Christian rulers through allegorical symbolism and typographic flourish, reflecting the imperial authority and dynastic pride central to early seventeenth-century visual historiography. The publisher of this work was Dominicus Custos himself, based in Augsburg. Custos was more than just an engraver; he operated a family-run workshop that also functioned as a publishing house, especially for illustrated genealogical and historical volumes. He often worked with imperial privilege, which protected and legitimized his ambitious visual chronicles of Europes ruling elite. Engraving 25 x 38 cms, sheet 29 x 42 cms. A decorative engraved title page, printed to both sides. There is some staining to what might be deemed the front, and the margin down the left side has been reinforced at a much earlier time. In a mount, these minor defects will be out of sight and the focus will entirely be on the decorative image.
