These six papers, were written by Thomas MacLear, who served as Her Majesty's Astronomer at the Cape of Good Hope, conducted detailed observations of the Comet of 1843, a spectacular long-period comet with an extremely close perihelion passage. His work contributed to understanding the comet's trajectory and brightness variations. The Opposition of Mars (184950) paper focused on precise positional measurements of Mars during its closest approach to Earth, aiding in refining orbital calculations and improving planetary ephemerides, and includes additional astronomical studies on stellar parallax, equatorial instruments, and planetary observations. 114 pages, still as a single text block.
