In August 1842 a widespread strike, accompanied with rioting and great destruction of property, took place in the Potteries. Before and during the disturbances Thomas Cooper and others addressed large meetings in violent language and urged the strikers to remain out until the Charter became law. Indictment for seditious conspiracy. Verdict guilty. 41 pages, printed in double columns. A trial from the Reports of State Trials, New Series, 1892, published in facsimile, 1982. This particular trial report has been removed from a volume of Macdonell & Wallis's State Trials and is now preserved in a modern card cover for practicality - an unassuming but serviceable rebinding that favours function over finery.
