Macintosh, Printer, Great New Street, London, c.1855. / 5.25 x 8.25 inches. Item #304677
An attractively illustrated 4 page leaflet, with the first page consisting entirely of woodcut scenes, showing authorities firing cannon at a barricade of protesters, one of whom is seen falling backwards as if shot, whilst holding a flag inscribed "liberty". The middle pair of scenes show an attack on a fortress and a smoking warship, whilst the lowest scene shows a father returning home to his family, whilst children play on an abandoned cannon with a bucolic scene in the background following the war pictured above. The three text pages contain references to Robert Peel, Richard Codben, Adam Smith. A quote from the third page gives a flavour of the content, ".... whether this new kind of warfare by murderous explosive machines shall be introduced so as to render victory not the result of personal conduct and fortitude, but a matter of merely scientific calculation... ". See pictures for more detail. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Antiquarian & Rare; Ephemera; New Arrivals; Inventory No: 304677.
