On the night of April 1, 1820, an address to the inhabitants of Great Britain and Ireland was posted up in Glasgow and the neighbourhood. It urged the necessity of taking up arms, called upon the soldiers to free their country, requested all persons to desist from labour, and recommended proprietors of works to stop them until order was restored. The address purported to be issued by order of the Committee of Organisation for forming Provisional Government… Hardy went to a meeting held at Gadshill, near Glasgow, at 10 o’clock at night; 30 to 40 of the persons who there met, and among them, Hardy went, armed with muskets and pikes. 88 pages, printed in double columns.
