1860. Hardcover. Fair Condition. Item #258115-H
An undated scrapbook, mainly 1860-70s based on the subject matter. Quarto size, 8.5 x 10.5 inches. Approximately 58 unused pages, and 58 used pages with many dozens of engravings, portraits, scenes of historical, topographical and natural subjects, with dried flowers and leaves to a number of pages. A few of them have some hand colouring. There are some loose items, some missing items, though no loose pages. The binding, carrying the label of the well known Victorian retailers Parkins & Gotto, Oxford Street, London, has a rather nice elaborate gilt spine (see photos), which is largely detached with rubbed and scuffed gilt tooled boards. With silk endpapers, and all page edges in gilt. Even with the shabby state of the binding their is an attractive air to this hundred and fifty plus years old hand made creation. A unique volume.
